I just got laid off from my position as a Senior Consultant at a boutique consulting firm, which was founded by directors from ZS and Frost & Sullivan. I graduated with my MBA from IIM S in 2023 and was excited to start my career. However, everything changed when I received an unexpected invite to a review meeting with my manager, the Director, and the MD. During the meeting, I was informed that due to bottom line reductions, my position was being eliminated. This news hit me hard, especially with my wedding coming up in November. I had chosen to stay at this firm rather than pursue opportunities at larger companies for a few reasons: the workload was manageable, I had to take time off to care for a family member battling cancer, and everyone advised me to stay put until after my marriage. Now, I feel like my life is in shambles. I'm not telling anyone about my layoff yet, as I don't want to add stress to my parents, who are already dealing with health issues, or my fiancé, especially since her family has been skeptical about our marriage. I've applied to around 100 positions in management consulting, but I know this is a tough time for hiring in the industry. It's been weighing heavily on me, and I felt the need to share my situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
