I recently resigned from my job due to an impending reduction in force (RIF) at my company in Texas. I received a severance package that lasts for three months along with a separation agreement, which states that my previous employer will not contest my unemployment claim. My last official day of work was July 31, but I will continue to receive pay until August 14. I've been informed that my benefits will also end on August 14, although my employer is covering COBRA premiums for three months. I'm trying to figure out when I can start applying for unemployment benefits. I understand from some advice that I won't be able to receive any benefits until my severance period is over, but I can create an account with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) now. I'm considering whether to file my claim now or wait until my severance ends. Additionally, I want to clarify that I will be working directly with COBRA for my health benefits, not my previous employer. Any insights or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
