I was let go from my job in Texas on September 5, 2025, after four years of service, citing "policy violations" without any clear explanation of what those violations were. I had never faced any disciplinary actions before, and when I requested my personnel file, I only received my reviews and pay stubs, but not the employee handbook. I filed for unemployment insurance (UI) shortly after my termination, and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) approved my claim, stating I was fired for performance issues. Fast forward to June 22, 2026, my former employer filed an appeal against the UI benefits I received, claiming I was fired for failing to follow instructions or policies. They did this nine months after my claim was approved, which seems odd. I have a hearing scheduled for August 20, 2026, and I’m unsure how they can justify such a late appeal. I’m gathering my annual reviews to show that I had no history of disciplinary problems, as that’s the only evidence I can present. I hope the hearing officer considers the timeliness of their appeal and the lack of evidence for my firing.
