I recently interviewed for an internal Application Specialist position at my company, where I currently work as a Mechanical Engineer in applications and estimating. I was really excited about the opportunity because it would allow me to move to a city where I have a lot of friends and family, which would greatly improve my social life. After the interview, the hiring manager indicated that I would be getting the job, so I was feeling optimistic. However, two weeks later, I followed up and learned that the Application Specialist role had been filled by an external candidate. Instead, they offered me a position as an Equipment Estimator. In my current office, the roles of Application Specialist and Estimator are combined, but in the new location, they are separate teams. I'm concerned that the Equipment Estimator title might limit my career progression, especially since my long-term goal is to return to the Middle East to work in HVAC or EPC sectors. While the new role will likely pay more than my current position, I anticipate that the salary will be lower than what the Application Specialist role would have offered. Plus, moving to Toronto means higher living expenses, including needing to buy a car. I'm weighing the pros and cons: staying with the same company, moving closer to family, and working in a bigger office versus the risk of being pigeonholed by the new title and the uncertainty of the salary. I'm really torn about whether to accept this offer or stay in my current role.

    Job title: Equipment Estimator
