Feeling lost in my job search lately. I don’t have a degree, just a higher diploma in Creative Media, which is equivalent to an Associate Degree in the UK. I’ve spent the last 10 years working in multimedia design, focusing on graphic design for food and beverage and video editing. After leaving my last full-time designer role in 2022 due to a terrible experience, I shifted to freelance gigs, but it’s been tough. Many potential clients ghost after asking for prices, which has made it hard to secure consistent work. In an effort to pivot, I enrolled in four courses related to VR and app development, earned certificates, and even landed a decent gig as a beginner app developer. Unfortunately, that client also ghosted me at the end of the project. Now, I’m back to job hunting, but the sheer number of applicants for design and UX/UI roles is intimidating. I’m an introvert and dislike interviews, so competing against so many people feels overwhelming. I’ve been trying to pursue a bachelor’s degree to build on my higher diploma, but my CGPA isn’t strong enough for the top universities, so I might have to settle for a less prestigious one. Coming from a low-income family, with my dad living on a pension and my savings dwindling, I’m questioning whether getting a degree would really improve my situation. I’m seeking advice on whether a degree is worth it and what steps I should take next.
