In late June, I accepted a job offer and informed my employer that I would be leaving. Knowing they don't typically honor two-week notices, I was prepared for an early exit. True to form, they asked me to leave after just two days instead of the full notice period. I believe this means I was technically fired, which should entitle me to unemployment benefits for those two weeks. The amount in question is about $1400. The unemployment office initially approved my benefits, but my employer decided to appeal, leading to a hearing. I'm likely going to be out of the country when the hearing takes place, and honestly, I'm okay with letting the claim go since I'm settled in my new job. I think I can skip the hearing and let my claim be denied without any issue. However, I'm concerned that my employer might make accusations against me during the hearing, and without my presence, I won't be able to defend myself. I'm curious if that could pose any risks for me, even though it seems unlikely the government would pursue a case over such a small amount. I'm looking for any advice on how to handle this situation.
