I recently went through my first salary negotiation for a job offer. I countered their initial offer of $75,000 with a request for $80,000, as they really need someone to backfill a role due to a company reorganization. The call felt a bit awkward; they started with the good news about the offer, but I had some unanswered questions from my first interview with someone who wasn't involved in the hiring process. I paused the conversation to ask about PTO and the on-call responsibilities, especially since the facility has a service contract that requires a quick response. I framed my salary request around the fact that there was a significant reduction in PTO, which I'm now second-guessing as a strategy. Regardless, I'm just waiting to see what they come back with.
