I recently applied to 60 jobs using two different names on the same resume. The only difference was the name at the top: my real name and an anglicized version I've used for years on delivery apps, which is easier for people to pronounce over the phone. I split the applications evenly, sending out 30 with each name, and made sure they matched the roles to keep the timing consistent. To track my progress, I used a careerflow tracker to separate the responses. I expected the difference in replies to be minimal, but I was shocked to find that I received 4 responses with my real name and 11 with the anglicized version. This disparity has left me feeling uncertain about what to do next. I’m not planning to change my name, but I can’t ignore the implications of this experiment. I’m curious if anyone else has conducted a similar test with a larger sample size, as I would love to be proven wrong about this trend.
