I recently accepted a technician role at Company A after being unemployed for nearly a year. With four years of engineering experience, I feel like this position is a step down, but I was eager to get back into the workforce. Company A is a small startup with around 20-30 employees, and I've had mixed experiences with startups in the past, so I'm not overly excited about this opportunity. However, I just connected with a family member who works as a Director at a government-funded energy company, Company B. They are hiring for an engineering position, which aligns much better with my skills and career goals. My family member offered to refer me, and I've been invited for an interview. Now, I'm torn about whether I should continue interviewing with Company B after accepting the offer from Company A. I want to know if it's acceptable to explore this opportunity, especially since my start date at Company A is still a month away. If Company B works out, I would be thrilled to accept a role there, but I understand that it might burn bridges with Company A. I'm seeking advice on how to handle this situation and whether I should inform Company B about my current offer. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
