I recently faced a layoff from my job, and it's been a couple of weeks since then. I haven't told my parents about it yet, mainly because I feel embarrassed, even though the situation was beyond my control. My dad has a tendency to be narcissistic, and I can already predict the unsolicited advice he would give me, possibly criticizing my decision to take the job in the first place. I also worry that both of my parents might expect me to be more available to help them out, whether it's my mom needing handyman work done or my dad wanting emotional support, as he often leans on me like a therapist. It's frustrating because people assume that being unemployed means I have all this free time, but in reality, searching for a new job is a full-time endeavor in itself.
