Today, I received my first unemployment payment after filing my claims. I initially filed my claim on June 28, 2026, and then submitted weekly claims on July 5 and July 12, 2026. My weekly benefits are supposed to be $430, which means I should receive about $387 after taxes. However, I only got one payment of $387 today instead of what I expected. I thought I should have received payments for both weekly claims, but it seems that the first claim is just a waiting week and doesn't count for a payment. So, now I understand that I’ve only filed two weekly claims, and that's why I only got one payment.

I was laid off from my job in Virginia on June 17, and my last working day was June 26. I filed my initial unemployment application on June 28, but then I learned that I needed to submit my first claim the following weekend, so I filed again on July 5. I was informed that deposits are typically made on Wednesdays or Thursdays, but as of now, I still haven't received any payments. When I checked my profile with the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), I noticed there are issues delaying my payment related to a lack of work and severance pay. Both issues are effective from June 28, 2026, and I’m worried about my financial situation since I have bills due this month. I'm feeling anxious and unsure about what steps I should take next.
