I was laid off in March 2026 and have been actively job hunting ever since. I’m a senior frontend developer with nearly 7 years of experience, and I've applied to around 35-50 jobs each month since then. So far, I’ve had about 10-12 initial calls each month, completed roughly 20-25 technical interviews, and made it to the final round three times, but unfortunately, I haven't received any offers yet. October has been particularly slow for me. During May and June, I felt demotivated and didn’t apply much, only responding to recruiter outreach. I’ve been using a main resume that I tailor with AI for each job application, ensuring it stays under 2 pages. I primarily find job postings on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and Hiring Cafe, but I struggle to keep track of all my applications. I’m looking to transition into AI engineering and full stack development while continuing to apply for frontend roles. Most of my learning time is now focused on AI engineering through YouTube and Udemy courses, hoping it will open new opportunities. I have several questions about my job search strategy: Should I mention my layoff on my resume? Is it acceptable to list work projects alongside personal ones in the Projects section? Am I applying to too many or too few jobs, and is my call ratio typical? I’m also concerned about the impact of my employment gap on my chances of getting calls. Finally, with winter approaching, I’m worried about hiring freezes and would appreciate any general job search advice. Does my plan to pivot towards AI make sense given current market trends?
