  1. 1

I recently had a tough experience at my job, which is my first role at a fast food chain known for chicken. I'm 20 years old and working while I pursue my computer science degree. Every day at work leaves me feeling worthless and I often leave in tears. I have ADHD and struggle with motor skills, making it hard for me to carry heavy items or keep up with the fast-paced environment. I try my best, but I often get called slow and yelled at, which makes it even harder for me to focus and do my job well. I’m quick with repetitive tasks like building plates and customer service, but I need time to adjust to the workflow. Unfortunately, my coworkers and managers don’t seem to understand that. They get frustrated when I use a system that helps me, and when I try to follow their methods, I still get scolded. It feels like no matter what I do, I can't win. I’ve even faced bullying from a coworker, and while one manager has been supportive, the rest seem indifferent. I’ve tried to connect with my coworkers by doing small kind gestures, but they often look at me strangely or scold me for taking breaks during long shifts. The noise level is also an issue; I struggle to hear instructions in the loud restaurant, and when I ask for clarification, it feels like I’m being punished for not understanding. I’m starting to wonder if I’m cut out for the workforce or if I should explore disability options. I feel like a burden and question if I’m just not meant to be in this environment. Is it all my fault? I really don’t know.
