I'm feeling really frustrated with my family's perspective on job hunting. They’ve been at the same company for over a decade and have no idea how tough it is out here for us job seekers. They give me advice that feels completely out of touch, like suggesting I just walk into stores and ask if they’re hiring. I tried that once and got a weird look from the clerk who told me to check their website instead. I’ve been applying for entry-level positions in retail and warehouses, but all I get is rejection. It’s ridiculous when job descriptions ask for a year of experience for roles that are supposed to be entry-level. It feels like a catch-22. My family thinks I’m not trying hard enough because they believe getting a job should be easy. They don’t understand that it can take hundreds of applications just to land a few interviews. They think if I haven’t received an offer after a couple of months, I should just retrain and switch fields. But the truth is, the hiring process can take ages, especially in tech, and even in other industries, I’m competing against hundreds of other applicants. It’s disheartening to hear outdated advice from people who haven’t had to search for a job in years. They don’t seem to grasp the reality of the current job market and how much harder it is now compared to when they were job hunting. Anyone else dealing with this kind of frustrating feedback?
