I recently landed two job offers after a year of applying, which feels like a huge win for me as a 19-year-old who has never worked before. I accepted a retail position that’s just five minutes from my house, but it’s only temporary and pays minimum wage. I thought it was my best option at the time. However, I later received an offer from a popular grocery store for a deli assistant role, which is permanent but involves a longer commute of about an hour each way. I accepted that offer too because it seems like a better long-term opportunity. Now I’m in a bit of a dilemma. The retail job has given me more hours than I expected—16 hours this week instead of the contracted 6 hours. I really want to keep this retail job alongside the grocery store position, just in case the grocery store doesn’t work out after the holidays. I’m also a college student, and my semester ends on November 27, which adds to my stress about managing both jobs and my class schedule. I’m worried about how to communicate with the grocery store about my other job. I had told them my availability during the interview, and I’m considering lying about needing to work as a lab assistant for my retail hours since they know I’m a student. I’m anxious about the manager's reaction and whether they might rescind my offer if I mention the other job. Any advice on how to navigate this situation would be greatly appreciated!
