  1. 1

I just finished an interview for a mid-level data role, and I have to say, it was one of the most bizarre experiences I've ever had. The HR representative seemed completely out of her depth. For the first twenty minutes, she rambled on about "culture fit" and "radical transparency" without really engaging with me. When we finally got to the technical portion, it was clear she was struggling to understand even the basics. She was phonetic in her approach, sounding out technical terms as if she was trying to decode a foreign language. At one point, I had to explain what a relational database was to her, which was quite alarming considering she was supposed to be vetting my technical skills. Every time I provided a detailed answer, she just stared blankly at her screen, only reacting when I hit on certain buzzwords like "scalability" or "pipelining." It felt like I was talking to a brick wall. Things took a turn for the absurd when she asked if I had "at least five years of experience with Swift-Python," a combination that doesn't even exist. I was so taken aback that I just said "yes" to see how far she'd go with it. She nodded and marked me as a "strong candidate" based on her checklist, even though I have no idea what the actual team does. It all felt like a performance rather than a genuine assessment, and I left the interview feeling more confused than ever.
