It's been 8 months since I was laid off from my IT job, and I'm really struggling to find my footing. I'm 29 years old and living in India, and the pressure from my family is weighing heavily on me. My younger brother is doing well in the US, even buying a car recently, which has made me feel like I'm falling behind. My mother often mentions how happy she would be if I could achieve something similar, and I want to make her proud. The emotional toll is significant; I feel lost and disappointed in myself for not being able to provide for my family. I’ve thought about starting a small business with a budget of ₹1–3 lakh, but I’m unsure about what kind of business would work or if I even have what it takes to succeed. I know comparing myself to my brother isn't helpful, but it's hard to shake off those feelings of inadequacy. I genuinely want to rebuild my life and regain my independence, but I feel stuck. I'm reaching out for advice on how to handle this emotional pressure, rebuild my confidence, and whether I should focus on finding a new job or starting my own venture. Any insights from those who have been in similar situations would be greatly appreciated.
