I started working as a contractor in May for a company, expecting to get paid $288 a day. They told me my first payment would be 45 days in arrears, which I understood meant I wouldn't see any money until after my first 45 days of work. I thought I would receive payment for the work I had done during that period. However, I just received my payment today, and it was only $600. When I inquired with payroll, they informed me that I had only worked 2 days in May, which is why my payment was so low. This was incredibly frustrating because I had spent nearly $200 on office supplies in June and had been working 40+ hour weeks. I've done over 100 contracts in my career, and I've never encountered a payroll system that operates this far behind. I know I should have clarified the payment terms better, but it's really disheartening when you have bills to pay and you're waiting so long for your earnings.
