I recently faced a setback in my job search within the veterinary medicine field. After shadowing at a specialty/ER hospital, I expressed interest in a part-time position, but they informed me they were looking for a full-time employee instead. I applied for that full-time role and had a phone interview, during which they seemed optimistic about my potential. However, I received an email a few days later stating they chose to pursue another candidate with a more robust skill set in emergency and critical care. This was disheartening, especially since we had discussed training opportunities during the interview process. I followed up with a thank you email, asking for feedback on skills I could improve and expressing my desire to keep in touch, but I never received a response. Now, I see they have a new job posting, and while I want to reach out to inquire about the position, I fear my previous rejection might hinder my chances. On a positive note, I recently interviewed with an urgent care clinic, and they want to schedule a working interview, which gives me hope!
