I just got let go from my position after only two months, and I'm still processing it. I joined a company with high hopes, taking on a role that was supposed to involve working closely with senior leadership on refinancing and M&A projects. Unfortunately, shortly after I started, the refinancing initiative stalled, and the scope of my work never really materialized. About three weeks in, I was told everything was going well and they were excited to have me on board. However, as the weeks passed, I started to notice that my workload wasn't matching the expectations set during the hiring process. I decided to reach out for informal feedback to ensure I was on the right track, and we scheduled a meeting for today. To my surprise, during that meeting, I was informed that they were letting me go due to a skills mismatch and concerns about my level of engagement. There was no prior warning or feedback, and it felt like the decision was made without giving me a fair chance to improve. They mentioned that they had been evaluating my performance for weeks and that my request for feedback coincidentally aligned with their decision to terminate my employment. Thankfully, I have another job offer lined up at the same salary, so I'm not in a terrible position. Still, it’s shocking to experience such a sudden dismissal without any prior indication that there were issues. If I hadn’t had the intuition to ask for feedback, I could have been in a much worse situation. Has anyone else experienced something similar? I'm honestly quite shocked by how this unfolded.
