I recently decided to resign from my consulting role after enduring a toxic work environment for the past two years. My manager was particularly difficult, often expecting us to work late into the night and micromanaging every aspect of our tasks. The team had an insane utilization rate of 200%, and I felt completely overworked and undervalued. I accepted a new job offer and was the fourth person on my team to resign. During my notice period, I faced additional challenges, especially from a senior colleague who seemed intent on undermining me. He consistently sent negative feedback about my work, even for minor mistakes, and ramped up his criticism once I announced my resignation. My peers, who initially seemed supportive, pressured me to put in extra hours during my notice period, claiming there was a resource crunch. I ended up working 18-hour days and nearly fainted at the office. To add to the awkwardness, they planned a farewell party for me just as they needed extra help with a heavy workload. It felt insincere, especially since they stopped responding to my messages after I assisted them. Now, with my last day approaching on Monday, I’m grappling with whether it would be unprofessional not to say goodbye or thank you. Given how I’ve been treated, I’m leaning towards not acknowledging them at all.
