  1. 1

I'm a director at a mid-sized company and I'm feeling pretty uneasy about my job security. Tomorrow marks exactly 60 days since I returned from FMLA, and I have a gut feeling that I might be laid off. After coming back in August, I was heavily involved in completing a major systems implementation, but since then, I've noticed a significant shift in my role. Responsibilities that I used to manage have been handed off to others, and I'm no longer included in key meetings about my own projects. Communication from leadership has dwindled to almost nothing. I've been keeping an eye on my boss and her boss's shared calendar, and last week they had a meeting with the CEO, COO, and head of HR titled 'HR Updates.' Today, HR scheduled a follow-up meeting with my boss and her boss, which included references to scripts and employee communications. After the HR meeting, my boss canceled our one-on-one meetings and then rescheduled them for tomorrow afternoon. The timing of all this is concerning, especially since tomorrow is exactly 60 days since my FMLA return. I know that companies often restructure and eliminate positions, but the way my responsibilities have been phased out after my protected leave feels particularly troubling. I'm preparing myself for the possibility that tomorrow could be my last day. I'd love to hear from anyone who has experienced a similar situation, especially those who have been quietly phased out after returning from FMLA.
