I currently work in safeguarding, supporting around 4,500 young people in a challenging community, and I've been in this role for three years. While I genuinely love what I do, the job is slowly burning me out. My salary is £29,500, which is decent for a term-time role in the South East of England, but the emotional toll is becoming unmanageable. My colleagues and I have raised concerns with management and HR multiple times, but no changes have been made. The only support available is an Employee Assistance Programme with just six counselling sessions, which feels insufficient for the demands of our work. Every day feels overwhelming, and it's affecting my relationships with my partner and child. I’ve started looking for other jobs but feel stuck. Most roles with a similar salary are full-time, which wouldn't work due to childcare costs, especially since I manage those on my own. Ideally, I would need a full-time role paying at least £40k to make it financially viable, but I don’t feel qualified for those positions. I’ve considered remote roles but haven’t found anything suitable. I just had half-term off, and the thought of returning to work has brought me to tears. I'm reaching out to see if anyone has been in a similar situation and successfully transitioned to a less emotionally demanding role without taking a massive pay cut. Any advice on alternative career paths or roles I might be qualified for would be greatly appreciated.
