I am currently a college student majoring in Architectural Drafting, and I'm struggling to find a part-time job. The main issue I'm facing is that I don't own a car, which limits my options significantly. I've had various work experiences in fields like warehouse, housekeeping, retail, and fast food. I also worked online for Telus International for a brief period, but unfortunately, I was let go without any warning. Additionally, I had a seasonal kitchen job prepping food, but that has ended, leaving me jobless. As a full-time student, I am trying to balance my studies with finding a part-time job. However, the cost of Uber rides to get to work is not justifiable, as it would feel like I'm working for free. There's a bus stop nearby, but the service is unreliable, and as a woman, I feel unsafe taking the bus due to past experiences with harassment. I am in need of a job, but I keep hitting the same barriers: most in-person part-time jobs pay very low wages and would require me to rely on an unreliable bus service or expensive Uber rides. The online jobs I find are mostly full-time and require specific skills I don't possess. I am also on SSI, so part-time work is all I can manage right now. This situation is meant to be temporary, as I plan to graduate and eventually move out, but I need to find a way to support myself in the meantime. I live with my mom, who is also struggling financially. I'm feeling quite lost and would appreciate any advice on what I should do.
