I was laid off from Uber after just three months as a Software Engineer I, following a pre-placement offer I received during my internship. It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially when I had just started my career. I joined Uber as an intern, successfully delivered projects, and was thrilled to secure a PPO in April. After completing my internship in June, I jumped straight into my role as SWE I and had already wrapped up my first project in two months, with my second project also progressing well. However, everything changed one evening while I was deploying my code. I received an email stating my job had been impacted and I needed to leave. At first, I thought it was a phishing attempt; it felt unreal. After discussing with my manager, I realized it was true—my time at Uber had come to an abrupt end. I felt lost and confused, unsure of what to do next. There were no clear answers as to why this happened to me. I packed my belongings and left, grappling with uncertainty about my future. This experience taught me that layoffs can happen unexpectedly, and it’s a harsh reality that can affect anyone, regardless of how well they perform. I’m trying to stay positive, believing that everything happens for a reason. I’m now actively searching for new opportunities as a Software Engineer I, with about a year of experience in Go, Python, Java, C#, SQL, Backend, and AI/ML.
