I just faced a tough rejection from a nonprofit organization I deeply care about. I had applied for a position there and went through three interviews, during which I repeatedly asked if there were any concerns about my qualifications. Each time, the interviewers mentioned that I was 'too overqualified' and expressed worries that I might leave for a better opportunity. I tried to reassure them by sharing how much the organization means to me and my current focus on stability due to my disabilities. After feeling positive about the interviews, I was shocked to receive an email saying they chose someone else who was more aligned with the role. I reached out for feedback, but they insisted everything was perfect and they just preferred a candidate with less experience. This hit me hard, as I’ve been working with Vocational Rehabilitation Services due to my disabilities, and I thought my situation was understood. Despite the rejection, I felt an urge to apply for a higher position within the same organization the very next day. I know I qualify for it, but I’m unsure if it’s appropriate to apply so soon after being turned down. I realize that my previous statement about not wanting a leadership role might hurt my chances, but I genuinely want to work for this place. I’m torn between wanting to pursue this opportunity and the fear of how it might look after my recent rejection. Should I go for it or pull back?
