I recently found myself in a challenging situation as I am being counseled out of my small consulting firm within the next three months. With plans to apply to MBA programs this fall to pivot into corporate strategy or strategy consulting, I needed to secure a new job quickly. I have four years of experience in valuation consulting across a couple of firms, and my current compensation is $105k base. Fortunately, I received two job offers: - **Job 1**: A corporate development analyst position at an energy company offering $95k. The catch is that I would need to relocate to a more expensive state. I initially accepted this offer because I was unaware that another opportunity would come my way. - **Job 2**: A senior financial analyst role at a private equity-backed fire protection company. This position allows me to stay in my current location, but it lacks M&A opportunities, which I find appealing. I'm feeling a bit stuck between these two options but am grateful to have choices. I also realize that I will need to communicate my decision to the MBA admissions committee and prepare a narrative explaining my choice.
