Zbreeliving's journey

Milestones, reflections, and progress updates connected as your layoff-to-next-step story unfolds.

  1. 1

I was recently laid off from my job, and it's been a strange experience, especially since I didn't even like the job. I worked at a mid-sized tech company for several years, and I was part of a company-wide layoff that impacted about 45% of the workforce. Even though I felt unhappy and unfulfilled in my role, the reality of being without a job has hit me harder than I expected. In the past few weeks, I've been grappling with feelings of inadequacy and guilt. I know I worked hard and supported my family, but I can't shake the feeling that I should have done more or seen this coming. I keep thinking about my responsibilities as a single mother with adult children and a younger child, and I feel like I'm not setting the right example for them right now. Every day feels like a blur. I wake up thinking about job applications and constantly check my emails and LinkedIn. Despite knowing I don't want my old job back, I miss the financial security it provided. It's a confusing mix of emotions—wanting to move forward while also feeling lost and scared about what comes next. I find it difficult to express how tough this is because I know potential employers might see my posts. I want to appear confident and motivated, but inside, I'm struggling to believe that everything will be okay. I’m still actively searching for jobs and putting in the effort, but I wanted to share this experience because I can't be the only one feeling this way after a layoff.
