Today, I wanted to share my experience with the ongoing reorganization at my company, which has been quite unsettling. It seems like every few years, management decides that the best course of action is to lay off a significant portion of the workforce and start fresh with new hires. I’ve heard this rationale from various managers: they believe it’s easier to bring in their own people who align with their vision rather than trying to change the mindset of long-standing employees. As someone who is just a few weeks away from retirement, I feel fortunate that I haven't been caught in the layoff wave yet. However, I can't help but feel for my colleagues who are being let go, often good people who have dedicated years to the company. It feels like we are living in a corporate version of The Hunger Games, where everyone is pitted against each other, and collaboration is replaced by competition for survival. I’ve noticed that as the company continues to raise prices on contract renewals, we are losing customers, which in turn justifies the need for fewer employees. It’s a vicious cycle that makes no sense. The mentality of starting over with new hires instead of valuing the expertise of existing staff seems like a power play rather than a strategic move. It’s disheartening to see how corporate culture has shifted to this fear-driven environment.
