I recently received a job offer that seems to be classified as a 1099 position, but I have concerns that it might actually be misclassified and should be a W2 role instead. The job details suggest a typical 9-5 schedule, a long-term contract with no clear end date, and the end client provides all necessary materials and training. I don't own a business, and they mentioned a C2C model, which adds to my worries. I'm not skeptical about the legitimacy of the company since I've interviewed with them and know they are real, but I'm anxious about the implications if the IRS or Department of Labor were to determine that the position is misclassified. Would I risk losing the job if they can't or won't convert it to a W2? I'm considering whether I should accept the offer as it stands or if I should wait for more meetings and the actual contract to clarify things. Should I seek legal advice or ask this in a more specialized forum?
