I recently received an email stating that I do not meet the minimum qualifications for a sales and marketing position with the state, despite my extensive experience in the required areas. The job description specified that candidates should have experience in utilizing sales and marketing techniques, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and maintaining sales records. I have years of experience in all three areas, which I highlighted in my resume and cover letter. What frustrates me the most is that I previously interviewed for this same position a few years ago when my qualifications were even less relevant. I'm left wondering how this could happen and whether it's worth appealing the decision to HR. I've heard that sometimes HR screens applications based on the work history section rather than the resume itself, which might explain the rejection. I'm considering my options and whether to pursue an appeal, but I'm unsure if it would be effective.

I'm currently in the process of applying for state government jobs, specifically for a Sales and Marketing Specialist role and a License Permit Program Associate position. However, I'm facing a dilemma regarding my resume. I've had two previous government jobs from which I was let go. I lost both positions due to challenges I faced after starting a new medication for ADD, which affected my focus and made me more irritable, leading to mistakes at work. Right now, I'm working as a Sales Associate/Optician at Target Optical since November 2023, where I've been successful in my role. However, I'm looking for a job with a more consistent schedule, better pay, and benefits. The issue is that if I omit my previous jobs as a Deputy Clerk at a Municipal Village (September 2021 - January 2022) and as a Customer Service Representative at my State’s Department of Transportation (March 2022 - July 2022), I will have a two-year gap in my employment history. I'm unsure how to handle this situation on my resume.

I had a phone interview today for an Account Manager position at an IT/Cybersecurity company. I felt confident during the interview, but at the end, I asked if there were any concerns about my experience. To my surprise, the interviewer mentioned that I seemed to focus too much on my sales numbers rather than my customer interactions. This feedback was unexpected, as I intended to showcase my ability to succeed in a sales role through my achievements. Instead of moving forward to the usual in-person interview, they want me to have a Zoom call with another Account Manager tomorrow to get a better sense of my fit for the role. I'm really eager to secure this position, but I'm worried that I may have come across as overly focused on sales and profit. I tried to explain that my sales approach is rooted in building strong relationships with customers, which has been key to my success in previous roles. I even encouraged them to check the Google reviews from my current workplace, where many clients have praised my customer service. For the upcoming Zoom interview, I need to find a way to clearly communicate that while hitting sales targets is important to me, my top priority is fostering long-lasting relationships through excellent service and communication.
