I was laid off last week during a company-wide reduction in force. I'm currently on an H1B visa and I'm concerned about the job market for software engineering roles for people in my situation. I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has faced similar challenges with visa sponsorship issues after being laid off. Have any of you managed to secure a new job while on a work visa? If so, how long did it take you to find a new position? I would really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.

I recently found myself at a crossroads in my career. With a background in art school and six years in the games industry, I've spent the last six years job-hopping just to stay afloat. For the past four years, I've been working in various sales and customer service roles, but I'm currently making only about half of what my spouse earns. I'm eager to step up my career and find something better. I've been researching the job market, and it's pretty daunting. I attempted to apply for HVAC and plumbing apprenticeships, but unfortunately, I wasn't selected for those positions. Now, I'm grappling with two conflicting thoughts: should I be content with my current situation, or is there a way to elevate my career and avoid feeling like a failure? I'm reaching out for any advice or guidance on how to navigate this challenging job landscape. Thank you!

I'm currently looking for seasonal work and came across the Aritzia Concierge position. However, I've been reading a lot of negative experiences from people who have worked there, which is making me hesitant. The commute is about 2 hours by bus, and I'm really trying to save some money before the holidays, so I'm considering it despite the concerns. I've applied to several jobs closer to home, but I'm not having much luck. I also feel like this role could potentially be done from home, so I'm confused about why it's required to be at the distribution center. It's frustrating to navigate the job market right now.

I’m currently feeling uneasy about my job situation at my company, which is undergoing significant executive changes. Although I received a positive performance review recently, I can’t shake the feeling that I might be laid off soon. Just last week, I was given conflicting feedback regarding my review, which ultimately turned out well, but I can’t help but wonder if it was just a way to keep me satisfied until the inevitable happens. I’m not in a position to know about layoffs in advance, but my intuition is telling me something isn’t right. Has anyone else experienced this kind of gut feeling that later turned out to be accurate, even when there were no clear signs, like being left out of meetings I usually attend?

I recently moved out of my apartment two weeks ago after the rent skyrocketed, and now I'm facing some tough challenges. I've been through three layoffs in the past two years, which has drained my savings and left me in a financial hole. My previous rent was $1715 a month, and with unemployment only covering that, my credit card debt has piled up. I've been sleeping on the streets, but honestly, it doesn’t bother me much; it’s just a part of my life. However, my new employer, a municipality where I've just started working, found out about my situation and is pressuring me to find an apartment. They even offered me a hotel for ten days while I look for a place, which I appreciate given the heat outside. But I’m hesitant to sign a lease when I’m still in my probation period and unsure about job security. My boss keeps giving me contacts for churches to help, but I don’t want that kind of help. I feel like getting another apartment would just put me back in a situation where I’m not in control, and I don’t want to be at the mercy of landlords again. I’m almost 40, and I want to save my money for something more permanent, not waste it on rent. I’m worried that if I don’t find a place soon, I might lose my job, especially since I work in a security-sensitive role servicing county vehicles. It’s a tough spot to be in.

I was recently fired from my job after putting in a lot of hard work and dedication. It was a tough blow, especially since I was offered a very low severance package. I tried to negotiate for more, but they just came back with an even lower offer. Now, I find myself in a dilemma. I have some potentially damaging information about the company that could really hurt them and the employees still there, but I know that pursuing this route would require legal guidance to protect myself. I'm torn between the idea of exposing the truth and the impact it could have on others versus just walking away with a small severance. It's a heavy decision to make.

I recently started a job as a groundskeeper at an apartment complex on May 1st, and it's been a tough few months. Initially, I enjoyed the work because it was easy, but now I find myself dreading each day. The routine is monotonous, and the tasks I perform are often unpleasant, like cleaning up trash and dealing with dog waste. I spend most of my mornings picking up litter and cleaning common areas, and after lunch, I often have to find busywork just to fill the time. I feel like I'm not given proper guidance, and when I'm asked to do something new, I often mess it up because I have no idea how it's supposed to be done. I suspect I might have ADD, which makes the repetitive nature of this job even more draining for me. On top of that, I have some health issues that make dealing with unpleasant tasks, like emptying trash cans filled with maggots, really difficult. I took a year and a half to find this job after high school, so I'm grateful to have it, but I'm seriously considering quitting. I don't want to leave without another job lined up, but the thought of staying here for another year until I can join the police academy, my dream career, feels unbearable. I'm torn between wanting to stick it out and the desire to find something more fulfilling.

I recently started a new job after being laid off in May, and while I'm grateful to be employed, I'm deeply concerned about the long-term effects of my unemployment. Food insecurity is still a major issue for me since I haven't been paid yet, and it constantly weighs on my mind. The past few years have been incredibly challenging, especially dealing with cancer and the financial collapse that followed. My credit card debt from treatment is overwhelming, and every day I receive reminders about unpaid bills, which adds to my anxiety. Even when I go out to eat, I struggle to enjoy it. I find myself questioning my food choices and worrying about how they affect my finances. I think I might be developing an eating disorder, as I constantly analyze my meals and feel guilty about what I eat, even when my tracker shows I'm consuming a normal amount of calories. My living situation is also tough; I've sold most of my furniture and am planning to move in with a roommate to cut costs. I feel anxious and broken, trying to mask my feelings at work while dealing with nightmares and nausea from stress. Despite my college education and appearance, people often invalidate my struggles, not realizing that anyone can face hardships like cancer or food insecurity. I'm preparing for the possibility of an even worse economy and am actively seeking ways to pool resources. I do have a counselor and therapist, but I worry that the trauma I've experienced has changed me. I feel like a skittish bird, trying to navigate life while just trying to survive. It's hard to feel normal again, and I wonder if anyone else can relate to what I'm going through.

I’m feeling really overwhelmed right now. I’ve been jumping from job to job, trying to gain experience, but none of it seems to be in high demand. Currently, I’m working part-time as a server at a local pub, and it’s just not enough to provide for my child. As a single income family, I’m barely making ends meet and I’m ineligible for assistance because I make just a bit too much. I have reasonable experience in clerical work and bookkeeping, but I’m struggling to find remote job opportunities that fit my situation, especially since I recently moved to a small town with harsh winters and no transportation. I feel like I’m starting from scratch and it’s really scary. All I want is to give my child a better life and ensure she’s not ashamed of me. I’m reaching out for any advice on where to find legitimate remote work platforms. I appreciate any help!

I’m in a tough spot right now. My lease in Utah ends tomorrow, and I’ve run out of money. I moved here two months ago for a job opportunity that didn’t pan out, and since then, I’ve been applying for jobs nonstop but haven’t had any luck. I’m feeling really stressed and alone, and I can’t afford to stay in my apartment any longer. I’m considering two options: Option 1 is to stay in Utah, but I really don’t feel good about it. I’m completely out of money and have nowhere else to go here. Option 2 is to go back to Washington and stay with my family. My parents live there, but I don’t feel emotionally safe staying with them due to lack of privacy and independence. My brother lives there too, and staying with him seems like the best option, but he has a strict lease that only allows guests for two days. I used to work for his landlord, so I could ask to be added as an occupant to stay longer without paying rent right away. However, I’m nervous about asking him and uncertain if it will work out. I just need a stable place to stay while I search for work and get back on my feet. My boyfriend and I are planning to move in together at the end of the year, so I’m really hoping to figure this out quickly. I feel stuck between staying in Utah with no money or going back to Washington and hoping my brother’s arrangement works out.

I recently faced a tough situation after being laid off just a month into my new role as a Data Engineer at a company I had high hopes for. Prior to this, I spent five years at my previous company where I was comfortable and skilled in tools like Snowflake, dbt, Python, SQL, and Airflow. The abrupt change came as a shock when I was informed that due to shifting project needs and budget constraints, they couldn't keep me on and asked me to resign. Now, I'm left questioning whether I should reach out to my old employer to see if they would consider taking me back. It feels daunting to think about going back after leaving, but I also know that I have nothing to lose. I'm also worried about how to explain this brief stint in interviews, as I want to avoid any assumptions about my performance leading to the layoff. I'm feeling pretty shaken up and uncertain about my next steps. Should I focus on finding a new job or pursue the possibility of returning to my previous company? I would really appreciate any advice from those who have been in a similar position.

I recently left my first job after just one week. After a long job search, I finally landed a position that I was excited about, and the company seemed great. The first week went well; the environment was friendly and welcoming. However, I quickly realized that I was not hired for the role I had applied for, and there was a lack of clarity regarding my job description from the start. I felt like I was expected to know everything without proper guidance. I communicated that I needed some time to get accustomed to the new responsibilities, but my team required immediate answers. When I declined a task that was outside my comfort zone, it led to confusion and confrontation from my coworkers. This made me feel like a burden, and overwhelmed by anxiety, I decided to resign. Now, I regret that decision. I truly wanted to succeed in this role and believe I could have thrived if given a little more time to adjust. I'm left feeling uncertain about my choice and what to do next.

I have my second interview coming up for a role at Independent Graphics as a customer service representative and print estimator. In this position, I would be assisting with print orders and pricing. I bring 10 years of customer service experience and 2 years of relevant work from a small print shop, which I believe will be beneficial. Since it's been over a decade since my last second interview, I'm feeling a bit anxious about what to expect. I'm looking for advice on the types of questions I should prepare for to make a good impression. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I recently found out that layoffs are coming to my company next month, and it's been weighing heavily on my mind. Based on how I've been treated lately, I'm feeling anxious that I might be on the list. I've been browsing through some resources for tips on how to prepare myself, and I've received some great advice so far. However, I'm struggling with how to maintain my productivity at work when the uncertainty is so overwhelming. The morale among my colleagues who are aware of the situation is pretty low, and I find myself wanting to overwork and overcompensate in an attempt to prove my value and save my position. I know this isn't the healthiest approach, so I'm reaching out for advice on how to keep pushing through in a more balanced way. I've heard suggestions like updating my resume, starting my job search, and continuing to do my job without overextending myself. I also understand the importance of documenting my accomplishments and metrics now, as I won't have access to that information once I'm gone. I want to take control of what I can during this uncertain time, so I'm planning to budget carefully, gather my work metrics, and think about my next steps. It's a tough situation, but I'm determined to navigate it as best as I can.

I was laid off on August 8, 2025, marking the second time I've faced this in just three years. It's been a tough journey, and I've been unemployed for over a year now. I've applied to 700 jobs, with the latest application being the 700th today. Throughout this process, I've had 20 interviews, but unfortunately, 8 of those didn't get past HR. I've faced 14 rejections, 5 ghosted me, and one role I was pursuing was withdrawn after I had gone through 5 interviews with the firm. Networking has been a struggle; everyone knows I'm unemployed, and it's hard to keep pushing forward. I received 3 months of severance from my last job, but I've exhausted my unemployment insurance. Now, I'm relying on my investments to pay my mortgage, and I'm starting to worry about the possibility of having to sell my home and move. All I want is a job that aligns with my experience, but the search has been incredibly disheartening. I really hate this situation.
